Here at our office you will find the latest technology being used to ensure
your comfort and care.
INTRAORAL CAMERA
An intraoral camera allows us to put color pictures of your mouth on to
a computer screen or television. You can then see, enlarged and in full
color, a photo or live video of your dental problem. This allows you to
understand fully why treatment is needed.
This wonderful advancement in dentistry offers the following advantages:
• We can magnify several hundred times for better diagnosis, allowing
us to detect problems before they become serious.
• Stress fractures in teeth can be detected early and treated before
they penetrate the nerve and require root canal therapy.
• Early stages of gum disease can be seen more easily with magnification.
• Allows patients to understand their dental condition and this
seems to make many patients more comfortable.
• Gives the dentist a better view of difficult-to-see areas of the
mouth, both during diagnosis and treatment procedures.
• Images can be stored with patient records, can be sent via modem,
and can be printed out for the patient to keep.
• These intraoral photos seem to make dentistry less mysterious
and they seem to make patients more relaxed.
• Can be useful in planning treatment, including cosmetic changes
in the front teeth.
• Photos can be sent to insurance companies to validate treatment
decisions.
DIAGNODENT

At present, the extensive fluoride enhancement
in our drinking water, toothpaste, and dental materials have made tooth
surfaces harder and more resistant to decay than ever before.
Still, even with rigorous mouth hygiene, cavities can sneak in. Diagnosing
these cavities can be challenging due to the microscopic nature of the
defects in the surface enamel, and the problems can extend to the weaker
parts of the tooth beneath the surface. Silverman Family Dental uses the
cutting edge Diagnodent technology to identify even the smallest decay
in its earliest stages.
The Diagnodent system is part of an exciting new generation of dental
equipment. The process employs laser light of a defined wavelength to
help detect and quantify broken down tooth substances without x-ray exposure.
A pen sized probe is waved over the tooth surfaces constantly checking
the integrity of the tooth surface. Older methods only check the outer
surface of the tooth, and many problems originate further inside the tooth
structure. This tool can detect problems more accurately and assertively
than traditional methods and the best part, it is completely pain free.

Fiber-Optic Headlight
When Dr. Hart works on your teeth, he'll
most likely be wearing a funny-looking pair of glasses. These 'glasses'
are actually surgical telescopes that allow him to see and evaluate intricate
details as he works, making tiny but important adjustments to the procedure
that would go unnoticed with the naked eye.
With his fiber-optic headlight, Dr. Hart can observe the inside of your
mouth without all those inconclusive shadows. The result? He gets a better
view, and you get better care.
Panoramic Dental X-Ray
The panoramic
x-ray is a wonderful modern invention. It has much less radiation than
a traditional full set of eighteen (18) smaller x-rays and is more comfortable
for the patient. It can be taken very quickly and is especially helpful
when a patient is in pain. This radiograph should be taken every three
(3) years and having a series of them on the same patient can assist the
dentist determining whether changes seen in the panoramic x-ray are normal
or not.
The panoramic x-ray shows the dentist a patient's nasal area, sinuses,
jaw joints, teeth and surrounding bone. It can reveal cysts, tumors, bone
irregularities, and much more. It usually shows both jaw joints and an
unusual flattening in a joint can mean that this patient has a TMJ problem.
The lower jaw can also have an indentation on its lower boarder when a
patient's beaver muscle has been clenching and grinding. It shows the
entire mandible, including all of its lower boarder. A full mouth series
of smaller x-rays would not show this indentation.
The panoramic x-ray shows impacted teeth that are buried deep inside the
jaw bones. Because we regularly take this radiograph on every patient,
we are often the first to tell a patient of a previously unknown impacted
tooth.
Many dentists do not look at the nasal and sinus areas but the panoramic
x-ray shows most of the maxillary sinuses and the nasal opening. Radiographic
examination of the maxillary sinuses can show polyps in the sinus, abnormal
liquids in the sinus, and can show when the roots of the upper teeth stick
into the sinus cavity. This is very important because some toothaches
are caused by sinus problems and nothing should be done to the teeth.
In this case, this x-ray can help avoid unnecessary dental treatment.
The panoramic x-ray is not the same as a full mouth set of dental x-rays.
It shows much more than a bunch of smaller x-rays. Very often the nerve
going to the lower lip can not be seen in a full mouth set. Paralyzing
the mandibular nerve is a possible complication of dental surgery, so
it is important to have this radiograph whenever dental surgery is planned.
This “panoramic” view of your oral cavity is accomplished
by rotating the X-ray film around your head for about 12 seconds. It is
important that you remain as still as possible during these 12 seconds
to obtain a total angle view for a high quality picture. You will be positioned
erect between the x-ray source and the film. Correct position of the head
is very important for a good picture.
Digital Camera

Dr. Hart performs many cosmetic
procedures. Photography is indispensible for smile analysis. It is very
instrumental in communication with the patient as well as the dental laboratory.
Digital Imagery allows instantaneous acquisition and retriveval of pictures
or images.
Tempurpedic Chair Covers
Dr. Hart's treatment chair is covered with
the revolutionary TEMPUR® pressure-relieving material. The material,
originally designed for NASA to relieve astronauts of the tremendous G-forces
experienced during liftoff, provides patients with a unique, comfortable
surface that can help ease the anxiety many associate with a trip to the
dentist.
Cable Television
We have installed televisions in the ceiling
of each examination room so you can watch your favorite cable television
show with your own remote control. Check your stocks, watch a great round
of golf, or keep up with your favorite “soaps”-- whatever
makes you happy. Its all there to help you feel right at home.
Chair-Side Computers
No waiting at the front desk while we enter your clinical data! Our office
is equipped with chairside computers so we can enter your data as we work.
It's faster, more accurate and more convenient for you!
